Dear European friends and fellow university lectures.
The French university system has been fighting for three months.
For more than one thousand consecutive hours, thousands of people walked in a circle in front of the Paris Town Hall (formerly place de Grève) to demonstrate their obstinate refusal to accept the decrees that the French government wants to force on our universities and research institutions, and more generally their rejection of the law called LRU (Law relating to University Liberties and Responsabilities).
This law, resulting from the Bologna process, uses the pretext of European harmonisation to turn knowledge into a commodity. In order to place our obstinacy at the heart of the European elections, we shall walk in a circle in Paris day and night from 1st to 7th June, and we invite you to come and join us in order to show what type of real harmonisation of European knowledge and culture we want. We would be happy to see you in particular on Friday 5th June for a debate.
